What you pay

Three costs, all
shown up front.

Most people ask the same thing first: what will this cost me? Here it is, in plain English. Investing with a financial adviser in the UK usually has three parts — and we show you all three clearly, before you decide.

One-off fee

Initial advice.

A one-off fee to build your first plan, based on how complex your situation is. We agree it with you, in writing, before any work begins — so there are no surprises.

A year, ongoing

Ongoing advice.

An annual fee for looking after your plan and reviewing it with you — a percentage of what we manage for you. You only keep paying it while we’re looking after you.

Charged by the products

Investment & platform costs.

The cost of running the investments themselves — the platform and custody, the investment management, and the underlying funds in your portfolio. These are charged by the products and set out, in full, in your plan.

Every charge, set out clearly — before you commit. When you get your plan, you’ll see your initial fee, your ongoing fee and your investment costs set out for your situation, in writing. No commitment, no pressure.

fee covers.

The support team

No commission.
Clear costs.

We don’t earn commission, and we’re not paid to recommend particular products. The only money we make from you is the fee you can see — agreed with you in advance.

If we ever can’t add value beyond what we charge, we’ll tell you. That’s the point of paying for advice rather than a product sale.

Clear before
you commit.

Nothing starts until you’ve seen the numbers and said yes. You get a clear, written quote — every layer, in writing — and there’s no obligation to go ahead.

And if you ever want to leave, you can. We’ll support your transfer to another provider, with no exit fee from us.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much does a financial adviser cost in the UK?

It varies between firms, but working with a financial adviser usually has the same three parts: a one-off fee to set up your plan, an ongoing fee to manage and review it (often charged as a percentage of what’s being managed for you), and the cost of the investments themselves — the platform and custody, the investment management, and the underlying funds. What matters is that it’s clear. At Plan Smart you’ll see all three set out clearly — as percentages — in a written quote before you commit to anything.

No. The first conversation is free, and there’s no obligation to go ahead. We’ll talk through your situation and whether Plan Smart is the right fit before any fee is ever agreed.

The initial fee is a one-off cost for setting up your plan. The ongoing fee is a percentage of what we manage for you, so it scales with your portfolio rather than being a flat charge. Investment and platform costs are charged by the products themselves. We agree all of it with you, in writing, up front.

No. You can leave whenever you like, with no exit fee from us.

No. We don’t take commission and we’re not paid to recommend particular products or providers. The fee you can see is the only money we make from you — which means our advice is about what’s right for you, not what pays us.

Always. Before you commit, you get a clear, written quote setting out every layer of cost for your situation — initial advice, ongoing advice, and investment and platform costs. No commitment, no pressure.
